What is geogrid?

Geogrid is a major geosynthetic material with unique properties and efficacy compared to other geosynthetics. It is commonly used as reinforcement for reinforced soil structures or as reinforcement for composite materials, etc.

Geogrids are divided into four categories: plastic geogrids, steel-plastic geogrids, glass fibre geogrids and polyester warp-knitted polyester geogrids. Geogrids are two-dimensional grids or three-dimensional grid screens with a certain height made of polypropylene, PVC and other polymers by thermoplastic or moulding, and are called geogrids when used as civil engineering.

Classification

Plastic

A square or rectangular polymer mesh formed by stretching, which can be unidirectional or bidirectional depending on the direction of stretching during manufacture. It is made by punching holes in extruded polymer sheets (mostly made of polypropylene or HDPE) and then applying directional stretching under heated conditions. The unidirectional stretching is made only along the length of the sheet, while the bi-directional stretching continues in the direction perpendicular to its length.

The polymer polymer is re-oriented during the manufacturing process by heating and stretching, which strengthens the linkage between the molecular chains and increases its strength. Its elongation is only 10% to 15% of that of the original sheet. If anti-ageing materials such as carbon black are added to the geogrid, it can be made more resistant to acid, alkali, corrosion and ageing and other durability properties.

Mining

Mining Grating is a plastic protective mesh for underground coal mines. It is made of polypropylene, which is treated with flame retardant and anti-static technology and then stretched in both directions to form an integral structure of "double resistance" plastic mesh. The product is easy to construct, low cost and safe to look at.

Mining Geogrid is also known as a bi-directional plastic mesh false roof for underground coal mines. The geogrid is specially designed and manufactured for the support of false roofs and the protection of the roadway at the underground working face of the coal mine. It is made of several polymeric materials and filled with other modifiers, heated, extruded, formed, punched, stretched, shaped and rolled. Compared with metal textile mesh and plastic woven mesh, geogrid is light weight, strong, isotropic, anti-static, non-corrosive and flame retardant.

It is a new type of mesh grating material for underground coal mine support engineering and civil engineering. Mine grating is mainly used for false roof support engineering in underground coal mine workings, and it can also be used as anchoring and strengthening material for other mining roadway engineering, slope protection engineering, underground civil engineering and traffic road engineering.
